Evidence has shown that the institutionalization of children in an institution is the least effective for their wellbeing and is associated with developmental delays. Studies have also shown the importance of families in physical, social, and emotional development, health, and intergenerational poverty reduction of children. As such, Sawiris Foundation first focuses on the provision of services to children without parental care. It aims to enhance and promote the family role, by preventing unnecessary child separation, and provide the children with safe family-based care options. That being said, not all children are eligible for family-based care which is why Sawiris Foundation works on different levels and types of societal integration. Through the provision of services in shelters and mobile units, we aim to support 1,400 children who live in high-risk situations.
