StARTing Point Residency Program

Sawiris Foundation for Social Development, in collaboration with Abla Art Foundation, is pleased to announce the open call for Egyptian artists under the age of 30 to apply for participation in a group art exhibition to compete for one of nine fully funded “StARTing Point” Art Residencies.

We invite emerging artists to seize this unique opportunity for artistic growth, creative exploration, and professional networking. The residencies will be awarded to outstanding talents selected from participants in the group art exhibition in the following categories:

Art Fields

  • Printmaking: 3 residencies (each one month)
  • Painting: 3 residencies (each two months)
  • Sculpture (all forms): 3 residencies (each three months)

Scholarship Benefits

  • Full coverage of accommodation and living expenses at Tunis Village, Fayoum
  • A fully equipped workspace tailored to the artist’s medium
  • Art supplies and materials
  • Mentorship and guidance from distinguished Egyptian and international artists
  • Access to a program of workshops and community-based activities with children and marginalized groups

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be Egyptian nationals not older than 30 years
  • Selected works created during the residency will be acquired by the organizers:
    • 3 works from each printmaking resident
    • 2 works from each painting resident
    • 1 work from each sculpture resident
  • Artists must acknowledge both Sawiris Foundation for Social Development and the Abla Foundation for Arts and Development in any future exhibitions of works produced during the residency
  • The names of both organizations must also be mentioned in related social media posts
  • Participation is subject to Sawiris Foundation’s contractual terms and conditions

Application Requirements

  • Copy of national ID
  • Recent personal photo
  • Submission of artworks for the group exhibition (produced within the last two years):
    • Printmaking & Painting: 5 works
    • Sculpture: 3 works
  • Portfolio of previous works
  • CV in both Arabic and English
  • Short biography in both Arabic and English
  • Motivation letter in Arabic or English
  • Mention of any prior experience conducting workshops for children or community-based activities
  • A proposed idea for a social engagement activity or an art workshop with children

Important Application Instructions

  •  All uploaded files must be named using the selected field (Printmaking / Painting / Sculpture) followed by the applicant’s full name
  • Each applicant may apply to two different categories at most, with a separate application form required for each field
