SFSD Shortlists 45 NGOs from Over 300 Proposals in the Sawiris Job Creation Competition: Empowering Upper Egyptians
Since 2004, SFSD has organized 4 editions of this biannual competition to encourage NGOs to propose innovative job creation initiatives responsive to labor market needs. To date, the total amount of grants provided through the competition has reached more than EGP 40 million, and created 20,000 job opportunities in 23 governorates across Egypt.
As part of the 5th Edition of Sawiris Job Creation Competition, SFSD organized a training workshop, "Towards effective partnerships to Address Youth Unemployment", in Assiut Governorate, on 14 February. The workshop was attended by representatives from the 45 NGOs that have passed the 1st stage of the evaluation process according to the Competition rules and criteria.
This year’s competition takes place under the slogan "Empowering upper Egyptians", with the aim of creating 20,000 sustainable jobs for young people in the most needy Upper Egypt governorates including: Fayoum, Beni Suef, Minya, Assiut, Sohag, Qena, Luxor and Aswan.
The workshop created interactive group work sessions for the selected NGOs, and provided them with training on the best practices in proposal writing to help them develop the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in their submitted projects. A special focus was also given to the monitoring and evaluation system as an integral part of project design.
The projects, that are expected to be implemented in May 2016, include the provision of vocational and management training programs, for youth, women heads of households and people with disabilities, in the fields of entrepreneurship, small business development, electrical and electronic maintenance, readymade garment industry, construction, handicrafts, etc. It also provides training programs in fields related to agriculture and rural development, such as recycling of agricultural residues, grading and sorting of crops, livestock, poultry, manufacturing dairy products, and providing veterinary services.
