Fowa Development Association for Handmade Rugs and Carpets: A patron of the handmade rug and carpet industry. During the implementation of the project the Foundation will provide technical support for the training program and help employ the trained laborers in its member factories and workshops.

Industrial Modernization Center (IMC): Supports the project by  providing additional services to the trainees.

Department of spinning, and weaving at the Faculty of Applied Arts, Helwan University, the responsible body for trainees’ certification.

OBJECTIVE
Train 200 young men on the manufacturing of hand-made kilims and employ them in available carpet factories and workshops.

Accomplished.

The project aims to train 200 young men on the manufacturing of hand-made kilims and employ them in available carpet factories and workshops.

The ultimate goal of the project is to strengthen the heritage profession of hand-made kilim carpets and preserve it from extinction by providing the highest technical training needed for the targeted group to capture export market opportunities.

The technical training has been conducted by the Department of spinning and weaving at the Faculty of Applied Arts, Helwan University, in collaboration with  the implementing NGO (FBA) and Fowa Development Association for Handmade Rugs and Carpets.

The Industrial Modernization Center, a partner in the project, supports the project by   providing additional services to the trainees, such as developing their looms, providing them with the latest designs in kilim manufacturing according to the world market demands, and inviting them to participate in exhibitions organized by the IMC at home and abroad.
