Improving Life Prospects for Vulnerable Street Children
In its efforts to empower and protect homeless and at risk children, Sawiris Foundation for Social Development (SFSD) allocated more than EGP 2.5 million in a grant over a year (2015-2016) to Banat El Ghad Foundation (Banati).
This grant aims to benefit 200 street girls, aged between 2 -18 years old, along with their sons or brothers who are less than 7 years old, through the provision of long term accommodation in Banati rehabilitation shelter in Haram City. The grant also aims to help reintegrate street children back into their families. The shelter’s rehabilitation programs consist of psychological and medical services, educational and vocational training, and sports, art, and recreational activities.
The grant will also extend services to more than 1,500 children who are still on the street, by providing them with healthcare services, meals, clothes and psychological support, through the daytime reception center. A Mobile Unit Program also continues in providing educational assistance and health care services that address their needs.
